68 Games In...

I apologize for the delay since my last blog, but things are getting back to normal, and I will be writing more often. With the first half of the season winding down, the Yanks are not even close to where I was projecting them to be. With their nail-biting win tonight (thanks to Derek Jeter), the Yanks improved their record to 35-33 and are 6.0 games out of first place thanks in part to the Reds beating the Red Sox 3-1. Even though he didn't get the win tonight, I am really impressed with the way Joba Chamberlain threw tonight. He threw 88 pitches in 6 innings and handed the ball to Jose Veras who did a spectacular job in relief.

I have yet to have the opportunity to voice my opinion on the Joba situation since I was away on vacation for a week, but as excited as I am to see him pitch more than 1-2 innings in the games he pitches, I am sad to see him go from the 'holders' role. The 1-2 punch of Joba/Mariano reminded me of that incredible 1-2 punch from '96 with Mariano and John Wetteland. Granted the team has been plagued with injuries once again this year, they shouldn't have rushed him. Joba IS a starter at heart, but they should have taken a longer time working him into the rotation. This should've taken place in August, rather than June. I am however, impressed though, and think he will help the weak and constant changing rotation.

There is still over half the season to play, and the team is in a much better position this year, than last year. There is still hope!
