Phil Hughes - Glad to have you back

I always enjoy seeing the young guys come through, when the big name, money-making guys aren't cutting it. Phil Hughes pitched an absolutely brilliant game for the Yankees after a tumultuous season last year where finished the season with an 0-4 record and a 6.00+ ERA. The Yanks need to have faith in their young guns. He gave up 2 runs in 6 innings, with 6 strikeouts. I am excited to see how his career will unfold in the Bronx. Despite the year last year, fans still love him. Let's hope the incredible start motivates the others to follow in his footsteps.

Tonight, the Yanks end the 3 game series with the Tigers with the hopes of winning the series 2-1. It'll be Joba Chamberlain facing off against the highly touted rookie from West Orange, NJ, Rick Porcello.

Well well, somebody deleted my comment...its on like Donkey Kong baby!

Let just say that Phil Hughes may have pitched well yesterday, but let us all not forget how he contributed to the Yankees missing the post season last year. He was counted on to be a solid start in the yankees rotation, but so far his career in the majors has been a disapointment, much like the running back from Rudy.

Does he have potential? Yes. Will he be good this year? Possibly. Is he the savior of the Yankees rotation? No.

Mr Capozzi, I put it to you, who do you think will rescue the Yankees this season? Hughes? Kennedy? Pena? Melky? A-rod? Or the wiley old veterans like Jeter, Pettitte or Jorge Posada? Mo will always be that staple in the 9th, but without a lead, or even a tie, his services will go under the radar.

I agree. He will not be the savior of the Yankees rotation, but if he can give a solid start each time out there, it should put forth a spark to the entire Yankee team.

As for who I think will rescue the Yankees this season... it will be the entire team that needs to come to the rescue. Pitchers can pitch great, give up one earned run and without offense the team can lose one nothing. The same could be said the other way around, the Yanks can go on a tear offensively, but if pitching doesn't hold up, a 10 run game could still not be enough. A-Rod is A-Rod. He will contribute greatly, but won't be the teams savior. The Yanks have lacked a true 'set-up' man the last few years. Bruney is the guy. Once he's healthy, I think he'll be the guy to give the ball to Rivera and protect the lead.

As far as the vets on the team, they need to do what they have always done... continue to give 100% and be the leaders of the team.
